Our offices are a 20 – 27 minute drive from Cathedral Square in Christchurch. The drive is one that our staff take almost daily and we never tire of seeing Lyttlelton Harbour as we come over the Pass, or seeing Christchurch and the Southern Alps covered in snow, as we drive back towards the city.

The directions for the lovely drive from the centre of Christchurch over the Port Hills to our offices in stunning Governors Bay are:

1. From Cathedral Square, head down Colombo Street towards the Port Hills (approx 4.0 km).

2. At the roundabout at the end of Colombo Street, take the 2nd exit onto Dyers Pass Road.

3. Head over Dyers Pass (you will see the Sign of the Kiwi on your right as you go over the Summit).

4. Dyers Pass Rd becomes Main Rd in Governors Bay (do not turn left towards Lyttelton).

5. Just as you pass the Governors Bay Hotel, turn right at Glas Brae and our offices (3 Glas Brae) are on the left in the townhouse closest to the pub (44 m)

Today, we signed the papers for our new counselling offices in Governors Bay Christchurch. We have been looking for many months for a place that would suit our counselling clients and staff and we have finally found the right place for us. We will be offering our services from 01 May 2010 in Governors Bay.

If you are familiar with GB, our offices are directly behind the pub. If you aren’t familiar with GB, you can drive over Dyers Pass from Christchurch and we are on the right hand side of the road next door to the pub and across the street from She Chocolat.

Coming to your therapy sessions with us will not only be a place to get therapeutic help, but coming over the Port Hills onto beautiful Bank Peninsula will be an experience to which you can look forward.

Refugee Lifeline

Refugee Lifeline has its Internet presence at www.refugeelifeline.org.nz and is a telephone counselling service for refugees and their families. Phone counsellors are available to provide therapeutic assistance in English, Arabic, Burmese, Dari and Farsi.

This counselling for refugees is free of charge and is a joint initiative of Refugees as Survivors NZ (RAS) and Lifeline Auckland.

Anger Management Strategies

Those with issues of excessive anger and resulting outbursts often find it difficult to learn to deal with their anger and the behaviour that follows. The first thing to do is for the individual or client to realise that they have an issue with anger. Without this realisation, there can be no movement towards insights into causes of anger, the development of strategies for dealing with anger and the process of modifying one’s thoughts and reactions over time.

Within a formal counselling environment, the client with anger management issues is allowed to discuss events and episodes that lead to angry outbursts. After discussing these “triggers”, the client is allows to look for common trends, common thoughts, common emotions and other things that accompany the anger episodes. Once triggers and maladaptive thoughts have been identified, the client is then able to begin to develop strategies for dealing with their thoughts and feelings that bring on anger and look for ways to develop more emotionally and socially productive responses.

Marriage Counselling can be a stressful thing to consider and where do you begin to find a counsellor in Christchurch?

For marriage counselling in Christchurch, you have a number of options, including:

looking in the Yellow Pages (hardbound and online)
asking friends who they might recommend (if they have been to marriage counselling)
contacting the Family Court
doing a search in Google for terms relating to marriage counselling Christchurch

Once you have a list of counsellors in Christchurch, how do you decide which counsellor is for you? Some people make the decision based on the qualifications of the counsellors they have found, some make a decision based on what part of Christchurch the counsellors’ offices are located in and some make their decision based entirely on the positive referral of a friend.
